02 / GET STARTED

From download to first boot.

  1. 01

    Download & verify

Download the AMD64 installer ISO and verify its SHA-256 checksum when the release files are listed on this page.

  2. 02

    Create a bootable USB

Write the ISO to a USB drive with a suitable image-writing tool. Writing the installer erases the USB drive.

  3. 03

    Install your way

Boot the PC from USB and follow the installer. Choose the intended installation disk carefully, and install the server system without desktop tasks. After installation, add a desktop only if you want one.

How do I verify a download on Linux?

Open a terminal in the folder containing your download and run the command below, replacing the filename with your downloaded file. Compare the result with the published SHA-256 checksum.

sha256sum rooster-linux-amd64.iso

The full checksum must match exactly. If a SHA256SUMS file is provided, use sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS instead.
